What will happen if I use an "Indoor Tanning Lotion" outdoors?
Posted by Sonni in: indoor tanningI was just wondering what would happen if I were to use an indoor tanning lotion to go to the pool, beach or anywhere outside where I would have direct exposure to the sun. Will I tan faster? Will it burn my skin?
Please only answer if you are knowledgeable on the subject.
Thanks in advance.
Be extremely careful if you use indoor tanning lotion outdoors. About all of the indoor lotions have no sunscreen in them at all…there are a few here and there that have an spf of 4 or so, but that’s still really low, and could burn you really fast if you’re outdoors for a prolonged period of time.
If you want to tan outdoors some, the best thing to do would be to get a sunscreen with an spf of at least 10-15. You will still tan, but part of the sun’s rays will be blocked out, so that you aren’t at such a high risk of getting burned.

No, you will not tan faster. Your skin will burn because sun-screen and abstaining from the sun are the only ways to not get burned.
Tan skin isn’t sexy. It’s damaged. You age quicker, and it looks awful.

Well, it doesn’t have UV protection, so you might burn. I actually don’t think it will do much aside from keeping a tan you already have for a little longer (if it’s a tinted lotion)…but they are good moisturizers anyway.

I worked at a tanning salon for years, I use my indoor lotions outside allllll the time, the only thing that happens, is well within about 5 minutes you’ll have tan lines, and yeah you can burn, but I don’t find you burn any faster then if you had no lotion on, you get a nice color, try to avoid lotions with bronzers in them. My only advice…

It is not a good idea to use indoor tanning lotion outside in the sun. It does not protect you from burning. Unless you already have a really good tan I would not even try. In a tanning bed you control how long you are in there and if you do it smart and with patience you will not burn, your tan does not look as nice or healthy if you allow yourself to burn. Those who say you have to burn to tan, they are wrong. I could not tan in the sun but I do have a good tan now from using the tanning bed.
