Is it that hard to open a tanning salon?
Posted by Sonni in: open a tanning salonwhere do i start?
i was thinking about opening one as well, but with prices going up on things like gas, and with skin cancer such a big topic, i don’t think this would be a good investment. this is also a seasonal type service. If you want to do tanning, try the mystic tanning, that is getting more and more popular and it’s not bad for your skin.
i have discussed doing this with people and these are some of the negative things that we came up with
also, you need to look and see how many are in the area, where i live, there are quite a few so none of them are ever busy (business is really slow too i think)
just my own thoughts though

Here is a horrific fact!
Most businesses fail!(even tanning salons!)
Why?
The majority of new entrepeneurs don't really understand the business they jump into. And when they scramble after realizing they've overspent, or underestimated the industry, it's simply too late!
Unfortunately, many new owners simply don't where to find this insider knowledge and won't succeed in today's tanning business environment.
Too many hard working entrepeneurs are losing their money, and their dreams, due to a lack of this specific information.

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you’re interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Spa Business Strategies: A Plan for Success by Janet M. D’Angelo
* SalonOvations’ Day Spa Operations (S Business Series) by Erica Miller
* Start Your Own Hair Salon and Day Spa by Eileen Figure Sandlin
* 101 Media and Marketing Tips for Salon Owners, Stylists and Managers by Nanette Miner
