Any tips for a stand-up tanning session?
Posted by Sonni in: stand up tanningThis is my first time going to a tanning salon. I am going to do the stand-up one, because I have my own personal reasons for not wanting to do the tanning bed. So please, do not suggest that one. Also, do not reply with ‘tanning is going to give you skin cancer’ or anything of that sort. I’m just looking for people who have any little tips on visiting a tanning salon for the first time and using a stand-up one. My skin is SUPER white so I’m not sure how long I should stay in the first time. I am thinking about 2 mins. I do not want to burn. Also, do I have to wear goggles? I REALLY want the skin under my eyes to tan because I have a blue vein there that I want to be made less visible.
Stand up beds are higher intensity, so if you are very pale….2-3 min is the max you should go. Also…you absolutely should wear the goggles. The skin around the eyes is VERY thin and sensitive & the UV rays are quite strong. Also make sure you look at the list of medications that can cause increased sensitivity to UV rays. And always use a good lotion, one with a bronzer would be good since you are so pale. And the good salon lotions will not turn you orange…just help accelerate the natural tanning process.

Hiring or Firing?

Tanning Salon Gold

I agree with you, stand-up tanning booths are much better than the beds. But since you are pale-skinned, I recommend you buy a tanning lotion at the salon you are tanning at that has bronzers and accelerators in it to help your skin turn brown instead of red. And since you are pale-skinned, I recommend you go for the first 4-5 times for 3 or 4 minutes. Once you start seeing a difference, you can up it by a minute each session. You will start to notice a difference. I am kind of pale but I go tanning and I am very brown, so you could tan. Also, it is probably THE BEST thing to do to wear the goggles. It really doesn’t give raccoon eyes as bad as people think, and yes, there is a slight line where the strap is, but I just put a little self-tanner on both of my temples to rid the tan line! It works awesome.
Good luck!

You absolutely need to wear the eye goggles to protect your eyes.
Also, lotion makes a huge impact on your skin tanning. Tanning salon lotions are formulated specifically for indoor tanning, so you’re going to get the best results. If you don’t want to buy a full bottle and take a guess on whether or not you’ll like it, you may want to buy a lotion sample (usually available near the counters). But don’t forget to moisturize on a regular basis. Moisturizing regularly will impact the length of your tan; ask about one of our tan extender products at your next visit.
