i really really want to open my own tanning salon. where do i start? does anyone have any good business advice?

You need to start with a business plan. That will be your road map and should answer a lot of your questions in the research it takes to write a good plan.

Here is a starter article for business plans http://www.home-business-expo.com/8142006_BusinessPlans.asp.

I recommend meeting with a good business attorney to help with the insurance situation and I would even meet with a CPA. You probably need to file for an LLC.

Here’s an article on the different types of business:

Here is a horrific fact!

Most businesses fail!(even tanning salons!)
Why?

The majority of new entrepeneurs don't really understand the business they jump into. And when they scramble after realizing they've overspent, or underestimated the industry, it's simply too late!

Unfortunately, many new owners simply don't where to find this insider knowledge and won't succeed in today's tanning business environment. Too many hard working entrepeneurs are losing their money, and their dreams, due to a lack of this specific information.

All I can tell you is that the liability insurance is incredibly high for tanning salons. When I had a full service salon I couldn’t afford to add the tanning beds.

apply for lots of insurance to cover lawsuits from past customers with skin cancer, either from the bulbs, or the spray tan.
then have dinner, and go back to work the next day.

Insurance, Insurance, Insurance and alot of money. Maybe a small business loan would get you started. I think that’s a very profitable business.
