now she thinks that she should be the owner and i should be the manager, because she has worked at a tanning salon before and she will have a college degree. I am proud of her for sticking with school, but school wasn't my thing. i have been in retail management for over two years and have excelled at many things. well i don't know how to handle this sitiuation, to tell my sister i deserve just as much as she does….help

First- Going into business with family is a dangerous thing to do. There will almost always be trouble seperating work from relationships. and this could ruin both. think about that first before you jump into this business endeavor.
Second- if you and her are opening the business then you have as much right to being an owner as she does regardless of schooling. dont let your relationship with her keep you from getting what you want/need in life. If she does not want you to be an owner that bad tell her she can open the tanning salon on her own and move on to your own endeavors. if you are not the owner then DO NOT put money up for the business. you have better things you can do with your money then fund your sister to open a business that you are just going to be an owner for.
good luck with whatever happens hope it all works out well for you

tell her that while she may have a college degree and all that, the agreement was 50/50 ownership, and besides, you have more work experience in dealing with customer satisfaction, so if nothing else, that qualifies you to be on the same level in this new business endeavor as her.

She may have worked at a tanning salon before but you have the retail experience, you both need to have a contract and sign it so there will be not confusion in the future.

If you are both putting equal money into it then you should be both be owners. If she wants to be owner and you manager then she puts only her money into it (not yours) and she pays you a salary.
